Chapter Fourteen

As Griffin and Stone arrived back at the Caspian Mines, he spotted Danita leaving. Shit! Hadn’t he told Logan to keep an eye on her? Or was she terminally bored and needed to get some air. He might have thought the latter, except that he and Stone hadn’t been gone even an hour.

They both landed and then shifted. “Wasn’t that Danita’s car?” Stone asked.

“Yes. She’s supposed to have stayed put.” Damn woman never could keep out of trouble.

It was possible she’d received a call to go into work. After all, she did work for a temp agency. Before he took off after her half-cocked, he wanted to check in with Logan.

When they stepped into his brother’s office, Logan was staring at his computer as if he was frozen. “Logan?”

It took a second before his brother moved. “You’re back! Did you find the mountains?”

“We did.”

“It was so freaking cool,” Stone said as he pulled up a chair, spun it around, and straddled it.

He was halfway through detailing what happened, when Griffin had to stop him. “Before we finish our story, where did Danita go?”

The blank look on his brother’s face scared him. “She was here a second ago. She’s probably in the bathroom. Her coffee is still on the table.”

“I just saw her drive out of here.”

Logan stilled. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure.” He had even sensed her when he flew over her car.

“Shit. I must have been so focused that I didn’t even see her leave the office.”

Griffin turned to Stone. “Tell him the rest of the story. I’m going to make sure Danita is okay.”

“But we need to get back to the mine right now,” Stone said.

Logan pushed back his chair and stood. “You found the mine? Why didn’t you say so?” He glanced between both of them.

“We never actually saw the mine. Look, it’s complicated. I have to see if Danita is okay. In the meantime, why don’t you two round up a few Guardians and head on over there. Just be careful of any explosives.” Griffin held up his hand. “Stone will tell you about it.” He faced his cousin. “Do you remember the way?”

“Do I remember the way? I’m insulted. Remember, I was the one who found the damn mountains in the first place.”

“Sorry. I’m not thinking straight. I’m worried about Danita.”

Logan made a shooing motion. “Go. We’ve got this.”

“As soon as I figure out what my mate is doing, I’ll head on out there. If I get there first, I’ll wait.”

“Make sure you do, but don’t worry,” his brother said. “We can handle it.”

With things more or less under control, Griffin rushed out and shifted. In the ten minutes he’d spent with Logan and Stone, Danita shouldn’t have made it to town yet. She’d be easy to find.

A minute later he spotted her, but only because his body had reacted. Danita was sitting in traffic on the edge of town. Because he had no idea where she was going, he circled high overhead. When the line of traffic eased up, Danita continued down the main street.
